Muskie Women Win Tourney in Bahamas

Senior forward April Phillips scored a career-high 19 points and sparked a game-clinching second-half run to propel the No. 9/10 Xavier University women’s basketball team to a 71-56 victory over Minnesota in the Championship Game of the 2009 Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division. With the win, Xavier improves to 5-0 on the year while the Gold Gophers improve to 5-2.
“I’m really proud of our effort. We played two really competitive games. We can be a terrific team when we share the ball on offense and tonight we did,” said Xavier head coach Kevin McGuff.
The Musketeers will return home to take on Middle Tennessee on Thursday, December 3. The game against the Red Raiders, who are receiving votes in both polls, is set to tip at 7 p.m. at Cintas Center.
