The No. 20 Xavier Musketeers experienced first hand on Wednesday night just how tough the Atlantic 10 conference is this season. And, they also learned just how tough it is to win on the road. Derrick Brown led all XU scorers with 14 points, but it was not enough to overcome a hot shooting night by Temple. The X-Men were upset 78-59 by the Owls (7-8, 1-1 A-10), who entered the game with a sub .500 record. The loss ends Xavier's six game winning streak as the team drops to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Temple was unconscious from long range. TU shot a season-best 13-of-27 (48.1%) from 3-point land and 28-of-55 (50.9%) from the field overall. The Owls were led by Dionte Christmas and Mark Tyndale who scored 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Xavier, on the other hand, had an uncharacteristically off night shooting. The Muskies hit just 38.6% from the field including just 30.0% from three.
Jason Love, playing in his hometown of "brotherly love", added a career high 13 points and four rebounds. Drew Lavender chipped in 11 points and five rebounds in the losing effort.
The Musketeers look end their two game road trip with a split as the team heads to the nation's capital to take on George Washington. The Colonials, which lost 66-53 at Fordham on Wednesday night, enter the game with a 5-7 (1-1 A-10) record. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Smith Center.
