Thornton Leads Five Musketeers in Double Figures in Win Over Bonnies

Five Musketeers turned in double-digit scoring efforts as Xavier defeated St. Bonaventure, 99-71, on Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. Senior co-captain Brian Thornton notched a double-double -- his second of the season -- by scoring 19 points and reeling in 10 boards for game-high honors in the winning effort.
The 99 points scored are the most by XU since it defeated St. Bonaventure, 90-64, on March 10, 2004 in the A-10 Tournament. With the win, Xavier improves to 9-2 overall including a perfect 2-0 in A-10 action, while the Bonnies fall to 6-7 (0-2).
Thornton eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career with his effort on Saturday. He now has scored 1,018 points in his three and a half seasons of college basketball, which were split between Vanderbilt and Xavier.
In addition to Thornton, the Musketeers received outstanding efforts from Josh Duncan, Justin Doellman, Stanley Burrell, and Johnny Wolf.
Duncan played noticeably more aggressive as was displayed in two thunderous dunks, one of which was a tip-dunk that earned him a technical foul in the first half for hanging on the rim. The sophomore from Cincinnati scored 13 points (5-of-6 FG) including 3-of-3 from 3-point range.
Doellman turned in another all-around effort as he added 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Burrell recorded a career-best six assists to go with 11 points. Freshman Wolf scored a career-high 10 points, dished five assists, and recorded just one turnover in 17 minutes of action.
X returns to the hardwood for its second to last non-conference game as it welcomes Eastern Kentucky on Monday, January 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Cintas Center.
