X Outlasts UConn in Double OT Thriller
The No. 18 Xavier Musketeers outlasted future Big East foe, UConn, on Friday evening into the early morning hours of Saturday, winning 75-74 in a double overtime thriller in the Semifinals of the Charleston Classic. The game featured eight ties and seven lead changes and two overtime periods that left players and fans exhausted. Naji Marshall led all scorers with 21 points including the deep 3-pointer on a trailing pass to tie the game in regulation and send the game to overtime.
Marshall was joined in double figures by Tyrique Jones who notched 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jones also had one of the biggest defensive plays of the game with a block in the lane in the first OT. Paul Scruggs added 19 points and five boards.
With the win, Xavier advances to play for the championship of the Charleston Classic on Sunday night. Game time is set for 8:30pm at TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina.
