Xavier Set to Dance with Georgia in the NCAA First Round
By Jay Skeldon, 3/16/2008

The Xavier Musketeers, which finished with a school record 27 wins in the regular season, were rewarded with a #3 seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Muskies (27-6) were paired up against #14 seed, Georgia. The Bulldogs (17-16) are one of hottest teams in the country, having zipped through the SEC Tournament, winning four games in four days. The two teams were placed in the West Region and are set to faceoff in the opening game of the Tournament on Thursday at 12:20 p.m. in Washington D.C.

Georgia is coached by Dennis Felton, who is in his fifth season at the helm for the Bulldogs. They are led by 6-foot-1 senior guard Sundiata Gaines, who averages 14.8 ppg. In addition, 6-2 junior Billy Humphrey (12.2 ppg) and 6-7 junior Terrance Woodbury (10.8 ppg) round out the double-digit scorers.

The two teams shared one common opponent this season - Auburn - which were victories for each team.

If the Musketeers are able to advance past Georgia, they would face the winner of the No. 6 Purdue / No. 11 Baylor game on Saturday, March 22.
